I thought my husband died ten years ago. But now he’s back…

I’ve built a new life since Freddie vanished — a loving husband, three beautiful children, and a home full of laughter. But everything changes the day Freddie shows up at my door.

He says I’m in danger. That Carter, my new husband, isn’t who I think he is. My past is colliding with my present and I don't know who to believe.

But I have to make the right choice. My life depends on it...

There’s a baby in your house. It isn’t yours…

The day I was told I’d never be able to have a child, my world came crashing down. My husband says he still loves me but I lie awake at night, wishing we could have a family.

One morning, my husband’s side of the bed is cold and empty. I hear a noise and head downstairs. In the middle of the rug in my living room is a wooden drawer. Swaddled inside, with perfect rosy cheeks and beautiful round blue eyes, a baby gazes up at me.

I shiver. It’s all I’ve ever wanted, but this baby is not mine…

I thought he was dead. Until I saw him staring back at me…

My hand shakes as I stare at the photo. The man in the background looks uncannily like my brother-in-law Jason, the man who killed my sister ten years ago. The only thing that kept me going was her beautiful five-year-old daughter, Lily. I’d do anything to protect her.

We all thought Jason died that night too. Is my mind playing tricks on me or is everything I thought I knew about the night my sister died a lie?

I have to uncover the truth, but is it more dangerous than I ever imagined? And will I be able to keep Lily safe?

How well do you really know your own family?

The wife: Eve is desperate for her life to be perfect, and she’ll do whatever it takes to hold onto her dream.

The son: Joe is a model student; he never puts a foot wrong. Until the night of his sixteenth birthday party, when someone is left fighting for their life. As the police arrive, all eyes are on the Griffiths family.

The husband: Noah doesn’t always tell his wife the truth and his lies are starting to spiral out of control. When a shocking accident happens in his own house, can he keep his family together or will he lose everything?

After the accident, it’s clear nothing will ever be the same again. But who is telling the truth and who is lying? And who will kill to keep their secrets…?

A J McDine 6 - no strap_edited.jpg

I am the author of nine twisty, character-driven psychological thrillers that explore secrets, lies and the dark side of relationships.

Before turning to fiction, I worked as a journalist and police press officer in Kent, where I live with my husband, fellow thriller writer A J Wills, our two sons and three rescue cats.

You can just imagine the conversations my husband and I have around the dinner table!

When I'm not writing, I can usually be found with my nose in a book, attempting a 5K, or gazing out of the window thinking up new ways to get my characters into (and out of) trouble.

I have written nine psychological thrillers: When She Finds YouShould Have Known BetterNo One I KnewThe Promise You MadeThe InviteThe Baby,
